What AGE is Up To

AGE has ratified the new contract as of April 10th with a unanimous 34-0 vote.

AGE will be holding a meeting for elections and a question/answer session on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Room to be announced. Please attend as we are holding elections for leadership positions, and will be answering any remaining questions you may have!

Opportunities for Involvement

AGE is looking for Graduate Assistants interested in taking on union leadership roles or simply becoming more active in the group. When official union operations begin, there will be about 10 leadership positions available, with responsibilities divided among them. Areas of leadership will include negotiation, organizing of other GAs, representation of international students, and other duties. If you are interested in learning more about what leadership would entail and what positions are available, please email our President, Evan Jean Wilson, .

Regular AGE business meetings take place every Monday at noon in PAC 4D. You are welcome to join us at any time and bring your lunch if you like.

History

Student organizing to form a graduate employee union at UIS began in spring of 2005. On March 1, 2006, campus graduate assistants voted to officially establish the Association of Graduate Employees, with election results of 40-1. Formal negotiations of AGE’s first contract began in September 2006.

April 10th marked the beginning of the AGE Union. The contract was unanimously voted for 34-0.
